Who has been inspiring me lately? Well let me introduce you to Malika Favre a fantastic artist who's artwork is so stunning and truly inspiring especially with Feminism. She has a unique style of minimalist pop art that has feminism at it's core. She uses negative space and bold colours to create her stunning graphic artworks. Some of her work has been made animated and made into street art that inspires women rights around the world.
Malika has done work for several magazine covers including The New Yorker and Vogue. This particular image is for Natgeo accompanying an article about how women are better suited to space flight. You can read it here. I love this image as it's so beautiful and gives a sense of power for women and inspires young girls that they can do anything including being an astronaut.
This is one of my favourite covers that Malika did for The New Yorker it shows four female surgeons about to operate. What I love about this is the amount of people recreating the image with their female colleagues that also shows women can do anything. It's so powerful to see women represented in the biggest jobs such as these. I love how strong and powerful yet still beautiful these women are, it is truly inspiring.
I was fortunate enough to visit an exhibition Malika put on in London in December last year. What I love about her style is the use of light creating shadows and her bold colours and use of negative space that creates stories about the women she creates.
This is my favourite image Malika has created. I love the shape and how mysterious yet elegant the woman appears. It tells a story of a beautiful woman dissaperaing into the dark. It's so beautiful yet has sadden undertones perhaps from her expression and the darkness surrounding her. It's so simple and beautiful I am drawn to it.
Malika is a truely inspiring woman and has created amazing graphics for some of the biggest magazines which is just as inspiring as the topics she creates. Check her out on instagram and follow her for the latest of her work.
