Do You Have A Favourite Advertisement?

So every now and then an ad comes along and I'm just like this is the best advert ever! Recently the AA's "Love That Feeling" ad has just blown me away (excuse the pun) with it's stunning dog puppet's fur blowing in the wind. So I am going to dive deeper into the reason this is such as great ad.
First lets start with the use of a shaggy looking dog: Tukker. Animals are commonly used in adverts as they have the cute appeal and dogs in particular are particularly used as we are a nation of dog lovers. Other examples of animals used in advertisment that work really well are the Meerkats in the Compare the Market adverts, the Andrex puppy and the Dulux dog. The AA ad works so well because they have built a whole character around the dog. The dog's character is simple and innocent, all he wants is to get out on the road with the wind in his fur. You can see the big change in expression when he was all sad which makes you feel sorry for him, to seeing him full of joy in turn bringing you joy too. His appearance as a shaggy type dog with floppy ears that doesn't have a certain breed makes him lovable by all. I especially love the use of wool making him feel like a teddy. His cute button nose just tips the cuteness over the edge when his fur is blowing. Even the way the puppeteers have made him move is just adorable, down to the tapping of his paw to the beat of the music. The first movement of the dog sighing is so believable because I've seen dogs do that so much. He is a cuteness overload.

Along with the dog this ad works well because of the use of colour. Yellow is the AA's main colour but it also invokes happiness and summer. In the beginning the yellow is slightly dulled but by the end of the ad we have this bright bold happy colour adding to the joy of the whole thing!

The retro theme of the room with the 70s style wallpaper and the use of a record player brings in a nostalgia angle to the advert. This is perfect as the ad is focused not the reliving of happy summer days for Tukker. Thus flooding you with nostalgic happy feelings.
The music used in the ad is spot on too. It's upbeat and quirky. It's also catchy but lacks lyrics. This works however because you catch the emotions and focus on the visual rather than what is said. The beat replays in your head but gives you a sense of happiness and joy. Although due to the lack of speech this does make the ad a little inaccessible to people who are visually impaired. However the joyfulness of the music is just perfect for adding to the happy and adorable theme of the ad.

So in all this is such a magnificent advertisement but would I buy the product?
Honestly no, but only because I don't need the AA, if the product was something like car insurance I probably would have bought my insurance through them in the same way that the meerkats have influenced me to purchase through them. Especially if I got a cute toy with it. But this advert is just so happy and upbeat it makes me smile every time I see it so I'd like to say thank you to the AA for that!
